Description

We are seeking a Chief of Staff for a DRW portfolio company, an AI compute company. This is a critical leadership role that reports directly to the CEO. The primary responsibility of the Chief of Staff is to act as a strategic partner to the CEO, providing high-level support, coordination, and oversight to ensure the smooth operation and growth of the company. The Chief of Staff will work closely with the leadership team and key stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives, improve operational efficiency, and foster a culture of excellence. He or she will create and manage a world-class department that will support every team member by providing the environment, information, tools, training, and habits they need to succeed in their role and make the company a massive success. He or she will also serve as the company’s Head of Remote, defining and driving our remote-first company culture. 

Key Responsibilities:

Operations: You will be the directly responsible individual for all Operations, including but not limited to: culture, remote work, People operations (excluding specific HR actions), Finance (until a Head of Finance is hired), business operations, team on-sites, and other related tasks. 

Operational Oversight and Coordination

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the company, ensuring seamless coordination across teams and functions.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and bottlenecks and develop solutions to streamline processes and improve productivity.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and communication to drive projects and initiatives forward.

Stakeholder Management and Communication

  • Act as a liaison between the CEO, leadership team, and key stakeholders, including board members, investors, partners, and customers.
  • Manage and prioritize the CEO's schedule, ensuring effective time management and allocation.
  • Prepare and review strategic communications, presentations, and reports on behalf of the CEO.

Organizational Development and Culture

  • Foster a high-performance culture that aligns with the company's values and mission.
  • Identify opportunities for organizational development and talent management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the human resources team to develop and implement policies, processes, and programs that support employee engagement and growth.

Strategy: You will serve as a principal thought partner for the CEO and CTO. As such, you are expected to have a firm grasp of the overall AI market, a deep understanding of the AI infrastructure landscape, and maintain and enhance your knowledge over time as conditions shift. You are expected to be proactive and take a driver’s seat to help us articulate our corporate direction on a dynamic basis. 

  • Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to develop and implement the company's strategic vision and long-term goals.
  • Assist in translating strategic objectives into actionable plans and initiatives.
  • Monitor progress against strategic goals and provide regular updates to the CEO and executive team.
  • Serve as DRI for the strategy memo, competitive analysis, market landscape, and related tasks. 

 Special Projects: The CoS will help the CEO manage multiple competing priorities and ensure that (i) no balls are dropped, (ii) that you assume responsibilities for “balls in flight” until the proper directly responsible individual (DRI) is identified, and (iii) that you help the CEO and CTO identify the right DRI.

  • Risk Management and Compliance
  • Identify and assess potential risks and challenges that may impact the company's operations and reputation.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with relevant teams and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal policies and procedures.

This position can be remote or in our Palo Alto, CA office.

The annual base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $250,000, depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and relevant skill set. Base salary is only a portion of total compensation, which may also include variable compensation and/or benefits.
