Shillong Teer is a unique lottery game from Meghalaya, India, blending archery with dream-based predictions. In this game, archers shoot at targets, while people bet on numbers they think will be lucky.

Background and Tradition

Shillong Teer combines archery with interpreting dreams. It's a tradition of the Khasi tribe in Shillong, Meghalaya, and takes place every evening, except on Sundays and holidays. Archers aim at a target, and before this, spectators guess which numbers might come up.

Popularity and Organization

The Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association organizes Shillong Teer with around 12 archery clubs participating at the Polo Ground in Shillong. It’s very popular with locals, who bet on numbers to win money. Understanding common number patterns can help improve your chances of winning. Although only men shoot the arrows, women can watch. The game is considered safe, with no reported injuries.

Legal and Economic Aspects

Shillong Teer is legal under the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act of 1982, providing entertainment and income, which was especially helpful during tough times like the COVID-19 pandemic.

How the Game Works

Shillong Teer can be played offline or online. Archers shoot arrows at targets, and people place bets on the numbers they predict will be lucky. Targets are between 61 cm and 102 cm high and are 15.21 m to 30.48 m away. The number of arrows hitting the target decides the winners.

Rounds and Results

There are two rounds in Shillong Teer. In the first round, 50 archers shoot 30 arrows each. In the second round, 30 archers shoot 20 arrows each. Results are announced at 3:45 pm and 4:45 pm IST, depending on the number of arrows that hit the target.

Betting and Prizes

People bet on numbers from 0 to 99. A bet of 1 rupee can win Rs. 80 in the first round and Rs. 60 in the second. If you correctly predict the numbers in both rounds, you can win Rs. 4000.

The Role of Common Numbers

Common numbers in Shillong Teer are often linked to dreams. For example, 6 might be associated with a male, 5 with a female, 37 with an argument, and 17 with a romantic dream. Locals use these associations to make their bets and review past results to improve their predictions.
